Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business (Year 12)

Who is this qualification for?

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business is an Applied General qualification. It is for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the business sector. The qualification is equivalent in size to one A Level and aims to provide a coherent introduction to study of the business sector.

What does this qualification cover?

The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. Employers and professional bodies have been involved and consulted in order to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice for learners planning to enter employment directly in the business sector. The learning programme covers the following content areas:

• business environments
• finance
• marketing.
• Human Resources

This will be studied vis the below 4 modules:

• business environments – Unit 1 Exploring Business - Coursework
• marketing – Unit 2 Developing a Marketing Campaign – Controlled Assessment
• finance – Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance - Coursework
• Human Resources – Unit 8 Recruitment and Selection Process (Optional Unit) - Courssework

AQA Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Business (Year 13)

 This Level 3 qualification offers a practical introduction to business, and supports progression to further study or employment. It builds on the strengths outgoing A-level Applied Business specifications.

The qualifications has been developed in collaboration with teachers, schools, colleges and higher education.  The course will help learners develop fundamental business and entrepreneurial knowledge, and skills valued in the world of work and higher education. There will be new, modern areas of business introduced students looking to study business in a vocational and applied context.

There is a mix of both written assignments (66%) and exams (34%) used to test student’s knowledge:

• Unit  1 Financial planning and analysis—External examination
• Unit 2 Business dynamics—Coursework
• Unit 3 Entrepreneurial opportunities—Controlled assessment
• Unit 4 Managing and leading people—External examination
• Unit 5 Developing a business proposal—Coursework
• Unit 8 Marketing Communications

This substantial vocational qualification provides a broader and deeper understanding of business knowledge and skills to support progress to higher education.

This qualification can prepare people to take up employment in business and entrepreneurship, either directly after achieving the qualification or via higher education at university or college.
