The Beaconsfield School A specialist Arts College

School Counsellors

We provide a counselling service to support our students by helping them to explore and talk in confidence about their concerns. Counselling can help with stress, anxiety, bullying, family life, low mood, self harm, friendships, relationships, future plans, anger, dealing with school issues, bereavement and many more issues not mentioned here.

How counselling works

Students are usually seen for 30 to 50 minutes each week and this can be for up to six weeks when the counsellor and student will review the progress being made.  Students will be offered a confidential space in which to talk through their concerns without being judged or told what to do.

Students may access the service in several ways:

Students who self-refer will be strongly encouraged to tell their parents/carers, but if they are not ready to do this their confidentiality will be respected.

We also offer online counselling using a secure platform for email, video or instant messaging and hold a drop-in service every Wednesday lunchtime. The counsellors attend on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  If you would like more information or to make an appointment to talk to us please contact your child’s Year Leader.

Counsellors

Denise Kolb (MBACP)Hello. I am a psychotherapist and counsellor working with young people and adults at the Beaconsfield School. I appreciate how hard it can be to take the first step to contact a counsellor, so I encourage students to contact me or Sarah via the school counselling email to find out more about how counselling can work for you. Students can drop-in to see me Wednesday lunch times in the Green Room.

I offer face-to-face counselling or online via email, video, instant message. Please use the counselling email to book an appointment.

Sarah Andrews (MBACP)

I have been working in private practice for a number of years.  I also work as a Mental Health Champion for a local authority, promoting mental health awareness. I have agency experience, worked in a local secondary school and I am an approved specialist counsellor for working with victims of crime.
